Founded as a new town, Harlow has made its name as a strong presence in North London and across the Essex region. Its new town status means Harlow has seen a significant amount of redevelopment and expansion, which includes increasing leisure, retail and tourism through a growing number of restaurants, shopping centres and hotels. Harlow adds to these strong travel links through its position as part of the London commuter belt and the M11 corridor, and its proximity to London Stanstead airport.

Not only does its location make it an ideal commuter town, Harlow’s composition means it is an increasingly popular destination for commuting families to settle outside central London. Harlow has recently welcomed new build developments, including a number of eco homes, and one third of the district is composed of fields or parkland. To enhance this, Harlow is served by NHS Princess Alexandra Hospital, and has seven state-funded secondary schools as part of its education provision.
