Despite changes to the UK’s manufacturing landscape, Gateshead remains a notable locality for engineering, process & chemicals, metal fabrication and food & beverage industries, in which it boasts a strong presence. The town has good access to the coast and North Sea areas and sits on several major road links, including the A1 that serves London to Edinburgh.

Gateshead sits on the southern bank of the River Tyne, opposite Newcastle to which it’s joined by seven bridges – providing incredibly easy access to one of North England’s largest cities. Through this connection to Newcastle and the smaller conurbations of Blaydon on Tyne, Whickham and Birtley, Gateshead is a strong player in the public sector employment space. It is also well served by multiple healthcare provisions and education institutions, including the internationally recognised universities of Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria.
