A large seaside town on the East Coast of Sussex, travel, hospitality & leisure is one of Hasting’s major industries. Visitors arrive to Hastings Castle and Hastings Pier, as well as the town’s museums and galleries, which are both a contemporary nod to its history and a huge attraction and employer today. Travel further west along the coast from Hastings and you’ll arrive at the resort towns Bexhill-on-Sea and Eastbourne, boasting popular beaches and both easily accessible from London’s Victoria station. 

There are various industrial estates on the outskirts of Hastings town centre. In fact, East Sussex has a higher percentage of commercial space dedicated to industrial use compared to the UK average. Businesses choosing to trade on the Hastings estates include those in the automotive sector (with recognisable names including Toyota and Vauxhall dealerships), construction and engineering sectors, as well as catering. Food & Beverage is a notable industry for the region as the centre of Hastings is, in fact, home to Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet.

Public Sector & Not-For-Profit organisatons, financial services & insurance, and health & social care providers also feature across the region.  Education too plays its part, and the University of Brighton is found in Hastings. In 2021, the campus doubled in size to welcome more students and more job opportunities to the town.
