Sense, the national charity supporting children and adults with sensory impairments, approached Stone Executive to assist with the appointment of its newly created Head of Commercial position. Newly created roles can present significant challenges for executive search firms, particularly where there is no previous incumbent against whom to benchmark experience, capability, or performance expectations.
Despite these challenges, the hiring manager provided a clear and well-defined brief, outlining the type of individual required to succeed in the role. Stone Executive also brought extensive experience within the health and social care sector, having successfully delivered a number of similar assignments for respected social care providers and national care charities.
The client sought to appoint a Head of Commercial to strengthen the charity’s social care division and support the wider leadership team during a period of strategic transformation. The organisation was looking to evolve from a predominantly residential care model towards a broader range of diversified care pathways, enabling it to better meet the increasingly complex and varied needs of service users across the UK.
After identifying our target market universe based on the technical requirements of the search and geographical considerations, Stone Executive presented a number of strong candidates for consideration for the position. These were shortlisted and invited back for a final meeting.
Following the appointment, Cathy Still, Chief Commercial & Financial Officer, commented:
“Stone Executive did a fantastic job helping us find somebody with the commercial social care experience we were ideally looking for. The brief was highly specific, and the team took the time to truly understand both the technical requirements of the role and the culture of our charity. Their thorough and professional approach resulted in an excellent appointment, and we are delighted with the outcome.”
Marek Lapham, appointed candidate commented:
“I would like to thank Stone Executive for their professionalism, support, and expert guidance throughout the interview process and subsequent contract negotiations. I would not hesitate to recommend their services to any health and social care professional looking to advance their corporate career. "
