Operations Manager - Industrial - Electrical Distributor

The Role

Our client is a leading distributor of power cables and accessories which are supplied into electrical markets in generation, transmission and distribution in the U.K. Our client is a key distribution partner for many market leading manufacturers with a wealth of experience in the electrical industry and can provide invaluable technical advice on product selection, application in addition to product approvals, testing and certification. Supporting clients in delivering product lines from their distribution centre and using established logistical networks, in helping customers maintaining, upgrading and connecting critical electrical infrastructure.

Due to continued growth plans they are now looking to appoint an experienced operational professional to oversee the day to day operations of the company, managing both customer service and warehouse operations, whilst assuming P & L accountability. The position will form part of the SMT and will report directly into the Directors. 

Due to continued growth plans, our client would be looking for somebody with a strong sense of career mobility and would expect the successful candidate to be able to assume a much more senior Director level opportunity in the short to medium term. 

The Candidate

The role for the Operations Manager is a key part of the SMT and responsible for maximising sales revenues from enquiries, alongside maintaining and developing long-term client relationships, offering technical support and an exceptional customer service experience. The position will be accountable for overseeing processing, managing and responding to client communications with a clear understanding that market leading customer service is a key role to the position, whilst simultaneously ensuring that both customer services and warehouse operations are running effectively and in line with wider company objectives.

The ideal candidate will be a commercially hands-on leader, possessing strong leadership experience, together with having the ability to drive business forward whilst maintaining exceptional levels of customer service the company have become renowned for. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the electrical cable distributor industry, although consideration will be given to those candidates who have worked in allied sectors where there would be synergies with supporting clients who are operate in the energy or power-related sectors. 

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the smooth running of the business operations, staff management, and P & L accountability. 
  • Oversee business orders for high voltage cables and accessories from customer verbal or written enquiries. You will possess outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and suppliers via telephone and email in a friendly, proactive and professional manner. 
  • Ability to upsell additional products within our large portfolio of products while identifying new sales opportunities to expand market share. 
  • Provide administrative support to the Senior Management Team, including preparing quotations, managing client relationships, stock selection, and setting KPIs. 
  • Working collaboratively with the External Sales Team and other departments to ensure everyone is aligned and working as one.
