The Role

Our client is a dynamic independent company who run high quality Ofsted registered special schools for excluded pupils with challenging behaviors who cannot be educated within local Authority provision.  

The school opened in September 2009 in South East London. The site is currently registered for up to 91 KS2 / KS3 / KS4 BESD and ASD pupils across two sites, the Integration Service and ASC Centre and offers GCSEs; Clinical/Educational Psychologists; Speech and Language specialists etc. as required; vocational activities and accreditation; work based learning; enhanced PHSCE; academic and social assessments as well as pastoral care. 

The school provide extended service to Local Authorities to cater for BESD and ASD pupils on a full or part time basis across Key Stages 1 to 4. Although attached to our schools, the services are additionally stand alone. The East London School Integration Service currently operates out of the Independent School Annexe.

The role of the Head Teacher will involve running the role school in terms of man management and academic leadership, ensuring that exceptional levels of educational standards have been achieved, whilst providing wider management development support to both academic and MDT support staff. The role will report directly into the Chief Executive for the company, and offers the successful candidate a chance to work autonomously across a large independent school specifically with children with ASD needs.

The Candidate
  • Ensure that the vision and ethos of both (The Company) and the Independent School are clearly articulated, understood, shared and acted upon effectively by the whole school community
  • Ensure the School works within the legislation and guidance pertaining to independent schools
  • Contributing to a regular whole school evaluation and working towards agreed aims and objectives in the related School Information and Evaluation Form (SIEF) and the School Improvement Plan (SIP)
  • To have an overall vision and responsibility for the quality and standards of educational and pastoral provision within the Independent School, including all matters relating to “Safeguarding” and “Child Protection”
  • Participating in the appointment of well qualified and experienced staff.
  • Managing the whole staff team both at the school and at the Annexe
  • Ensuring that all staff have the necessary skills, resources and school information to carry out their professional duties to a high standard
  • Controlling and accounting for the finances which are under the remit of the Head teacher with particular regard to the school’s annual budget
  • With the support of the Executive Head/ School Proprietor, develop the number of sites to allow for growth in pupils numbers. This will be undertaken in a planned and phased programme
  • With the support of the Business Development Manager and Executive Head/ School Proprietor ensure the active promotion and marketing of the school and associated company wide services to Local Authorities
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are followed throughout the school
  • To ensure that the School has an effective behaviour management policy and procedure and that pupils understand our expectation of their behaviour and the potential consequence of inappropriate behaviour

Curriculum / Teaching and Learning

  • Organising and implementing an appropriate curriculum for all pupils, having regard for the needs, experience, interests, aptitudes and stage of development of the pupils and the resources available to the school
  • Ensuring that teaching and learning promotes diversity and equality awareness and celebrates difference
  • Participating, to such an extent as maybe appropriate having regard to his/her other duties, in the teaching of pupils at the school, including the provision of cover for absent teachers.
  • Evaluating the standards of teaching and learning across the school, ensuring that appropriate standards are met
  • Ensuring that pupil progress is recorded and monitored
